NAMI Basics is a free, six-session education program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. The program helps families better understand the conditions that may be affecting their child, while also showing them the important role they play in supporting treatment and care. It is taught by trained instructors who are also parents or caregivers of individuals who experienced emotional or behavioral difficulties before age 13.
The next session begins Tuesday, July 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. via Zoom. Parents and caregivers can sign up here, and can also contact NAMI Montgomery County directly for more information.
Participants describe the program as supportive, practical, and easy to follow. One parent shared that it “walks parents every step of the way,” while another said it offers family and child resources that would be difficult to gather alone. A third participant noted that NAMI Basics “bridges the gap” and provides help that may not be available in a doctor’s office.
