The CARES program is a school wide program that promotes behaviors that contribute to a positive school culture. CARES is an acronym that stands for Cooperation, Acceptance of Others, Respect, Eagerness to Learn, and Safety. Students who exhibit behaviors in line with the CARES expectations are given “CARES” coupons. Teachers are expected to give out “CARES” coupons to students both in their classes and those they see meeting expectations in the hallways, library and other common areas. All staff members are attentive to ensuring that all students are recognized for behaviors that add to a positive school environment. The following procedures are implemented as part of the overall CARES program.
- Each morning the names of students who earned a CARES coupon the day before are read over the loud speaker during morning announcements.
- Names of students earning CARES tickets are entered into a jar in the principal’s office. Each month two student’s names are chosen. These two students bring a friend to the Principal’s office for a pizza lunch with the principal.
- All students earning a CARES coupon have their names posted on the bulletin board for one month.
- Names of all students earning a CARES coupon are listed in the parent newsletter.
- All student discipline is connected directly to the CARES rules.
- Once a month school-wide assemblies are held to highlight one of the CARES rules.
