Dear Jenkintown Community,

We are writing to share an important update regarding the remainder of our varsity football season.

After continued evaluation of the team’s roster, participation levels, and the demands of the varsity schedule, our head football coach, in consultation with our administration, determined that continuing competition for the remainder of the season would not be in the best interest of our student-athletes, particularly from a safety standpoint. After discussing his concerns with the athletic department and administration, the District supported his recommendation to suspend varsity competition for the remainder of the season.

Throughout the preseason and opening weeks of the season, the program faced ongoing challenges related to roster size and consistent player participation. Despite continued efforts by our coaching staff to recruit and retain student-athletes, the number of players consistently available was not sufficient to safely sustain a varsity football schedule. These challenges led to game forfeitures. Ultimately, continuing to compete under these circumstances would place significant physical demands on a limited number of players. Given the nature of the sport, we believe it is important to respect and support the coach’s determination and to keep student safety at the forefront.

While varsity competition will end for this season, the football program itself is not ending. Our coaches will continue working with the students who remain committed to the program through practices, skill development, strength and conditioning, and other opportunities focused on player development and building the program for the future.

We recognize that this is disappointing for our student-athletes, families, coaches, and community. We are especially appreciative of the players who continued to show up, work hard, and represent Jenkintown throughout a challenging season. We are equally grateful to our coaching staff for the time, energy, and care they have invested in our students.

The District will continue to evaluate the future of the football program and work with our coaching and athletic staff to determine a sustainable path forward that prioritizes student safety and meaningful athletic opportunities.
